The State of Wisconsin is home to at least eight different villages, towns, and communities named Harrison. Yet, none of them inspired the "Harrison" setting I used in Beneath Claire's House. The inspiration for a city named Harrison hit me during a tour of the White House in 2014. While on the tour, I learned about William Henry Harrison. President Harrison served as president for just 32 days before dying of pneumonia. It is the shortest presidential term in American history and was the sole inspiration for the city of Harrison used in the novel.
Worth noting, however, is that one of the actual Harrison communities located in Wisconsin is now a ghost town. A graveyard located in Calumet County is the only surviving remnant of a community established in 1870 once known as Harrison (queue creepy music).
